Current information

Introduction/specifics

We are currently the only ecumenical nursery school in Ulm and the surrounding area. This means that the Catholic and Protestant churches share responsibility for running it. We have two mixed-age groups, each with 25 places, where children aged 2.9 years to school age are looked after by qualified teachers.

This cross-denominational work fits in very well with our educational concept, because it is important to us to give our children access to different cultures, religions and ideas so that they can develop tolerance towards others and find their own roots. We also have our own chapel, which we use regularly for celebrations and morning circles. An important part of our work is to teach the children Christian values.

Basics

Although we have two permanent core groups, we often work across groups. We work according to the situation-oriented approach (SOA) and the partially open concept. This involves addressing the children's life situations, responding to their questions and needs, and allowing them to actively participate in planning and implementation. We follow the annual cycle and Christian festivals. In addition, we enjoy working on projects, because, as Confucius said: ‘Tell me, and I will forget; show me, and I will remember; let me do it, and I will keep it.’

Cooperation with our parents is very important to us. In regular parent-teacher conferences, we inform parents about their child's current stage of development, thus enabling targeted, individual support.

Our top priority is the children. We want to support them in growing up to be self-confident, independent and responsible people who find their way in life and treat others with respect and consideration. To this end, we use a wide range of activities. We offer language support integrated into everyday life, sustainable work, intensive pre-school work and creative, motor and musical activities. In doing so, we follow the guidelines of the orientation plan.

Additional Offerings

Religious education

As a nursery school run by two church organisations, it is very important to us to actively live the Christian faith and to teach it to the children. We structure our nursery school year around Christian festivals and prepare for them consciously and intensively with the children. We pray daily with the children in our morning circle, regardless of their religious denomination.

Focus: Art, music and creativity

It is important to us to help children discover and develop their own creativity and imagination. To this end, the children have access to a wide range of painting and craft materials and guided creative activities. We sing with the children every day, do finger games and learn about various Orff instruments.

Focus on nature education (forest days, etc.)

As our nursery is located close to the edge of the forest and many city children unfortunately lack contact with nature, we take the children on many trips into the countryside. We regularly organise nature days, where we spend the morning with the children in nature, observing animals and examining plants. We go to our large garden with the children every day, where they experience different weather conditions and seasons in nature.

Multicultural education

At our facility, we care for children from different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, it is very important to us to teach the children respect and consideration for others.
