Introduction/specifics

Our educators accompany a maximum of 23 children from the age of 2.5 years, allowing us to ensure individual care and support for each child. Parental involvement and commitment are essential in this regard. Numerous joint activities also strengthen the sense of community in a special way.

An important pillar of our kindergarten is the imparting of a responsible approach to the environment, oneself, and others. This includes respect for nature, the use of ecological products, wholesome and organic nutrition, as well as the promotion of positive social behavior (conflict resolution, compromise, tolerance, and consideration).

Following our slogan "Together we have fun," one of our educators exclusively speaks English with the children. Through daily use of an interaction with the English language, the children naturally learn a new language. Additionally, this fosters openness and tolerance towards other cultures.

For over 30 years, the "Freie Kindergarten Schwabach e.V." has been supported by a parent initiative, meaning that the parents are the sponsors of the kindergarten. It is important for us to actively participate in organizational and educational matters, contribute to shaping the kindergarten experience, and take responsibility for the future of our children.

Food

Wholefood nutrition in our kindergarten:

• Our communal meals are an integral part of our daily routine. The daily breakfast and lunch not only promote healthy eating but also serve as a nurturing introduction to the topic of nutrition.
• We have a varied breakfast each day, prepared by parents on a rotating weekly basis. Lunch, from Monday to Thursday, is prepared for us by our very own chef, Steffi. We also prioritize regional and seasonal ingredients in our meals.
• Projects like "Das Jolinchen" by AOK are implemented to create awareness of healthy nutrition among the children.

Additional Offerings

Music Kindergarten:

In the Music Kindergarten, we promote holistic development on all levels—social, emotional, motor, and cognitive. Additionally, it strengthens connections between the two brain hemispheres (rhythm and language: left hemisphere, melody: right hemisphere).

Discovery Club:

In the Discovery Club, we aim to cover the creative, experimental, and other interests of children aged 3-6.

Woodworking Workshop:

In the Woodworking Workshop, children can be creative in alternating small groups, engaging in activities like sawing, filing, drilling, and nailing.

Specifics

In our bilingual kindergarten, this means:

• Simon, a native English speaker, communicates exclusively in English with the children.
• Our other educators speak only German to provide a clear language structure for the children.
• In their daily activities, the children experience the melodic tones of the foreign language.
• The children are immersed daily in a "language bath" (immersion), allowing them to naturally learn the English language.
• No formal English lessons are conducted; instead, children learn individual words through daily interactions.
• Simon uses a simplified English, supported by gestures.

Projects

Our kindergarten has been recognized for its outstanding work on multiple occasions:

• In 2013 and 2023, we were awarded the Environmental and Nature Conservation Prize for 30 years of exemplary pedagogy in the realm of environmental and nature conservation.
• In 2014, we won the ebl Prize for the project "Making Food an Experience."
• Through our annual participation in the "ÖkoKids – Sustainable Childcare Facility" project, we have gained recognition, earning accolades in various themes such as "900 Years of Schwabach," "Do You Know What Every Child Needs?" and "We Recycle Our Earth" in the last 9 years.
• Since 2019 we received many awards from the "Little Climate Protectors" initiative in the city of Schwabach, as our children environmentally consciously commuted to the kindergarten (by bus, bicycle, or on foot).

Overview

As a parents' initiative, we are organized as an association and handle a variety of tasks ourselves. The involvement of all parents is therefore essential for us. Various roles in different offices offer a wide range of tasks, from maintaining our beautiful garden to organizing various events (such as a brunch, a winter hike, or our camping weekend). The parents also constitute the board of the association.

Directions to our Kindergarten:

Our Kindergarten is located at Markgrafenstraße 5 in 91126 Schwabach, specifically

right at the village square in Unterreichenbach.

By Car:

• From the city center of Schwabach, take Reichenbacher Straße towards the west.
• Follow the road until it becomes Markgrafenstraße.
• On the left side, you will find the village square and our Kindergarten.

By Public Transport:

• The nearest bus stop is right in front of our building, named Händelplatz. Take bus line 663.

On Foot or by Bicycle:

• The Kindergarten is easily accessible on foot or by bicycle. Feel free to use our bike rack.
