We are FaireKITA!
The FaireKITA project was created five years ago as part of the Faire Metropole Ruhr network. At that time, three daycare centers wanted help, support and educational materials for global learning in the elementary sector. The network took up this and developed a plan with these three pilot institutions. Judith Altenbockum, an educational specialist at FaireKITA, reports exactly how it looks.
What is FaireKITA?
FaireKITA is a project that supports day-care centers in living sustainability on site. We would like to encourage everyone to reflect on their previous behavior and to develop social, ecological and economic alternatives. The Network Fair Metropolis Ruhr - an association of churches, municipalities and organizations showing their commitment to fair trade in the Ruhr area - started the project five years ago.
At that time, a lot of materials in the field of education related primarily to students. There was hardly any support for daycare centers, only a few guidelines, materials or further training courses, etc. That is why we considered three pilot institutions: How can we support daycare centers in establishing and implementing global learning in the elementary sector? This resulted in the FaireKITA project, which has now certified 100 daycare centers with FaireKITAs.
What is the goal of FaireKITA?
Our goal is to enable children to deal with global learning at an early age. They should be able to rethink their scope of action in a playful way and experience sensually what global justice, fair trade and sustainability mean in everyday life.
About FaireKITA
The FaireKITA project aims to anchor education for sustainable development and global learning in the elementary sector in the long term. Using the example of the topic of fair trade, FaireKITAs are intended to sensitize children, educators and families to sustainable, fair consumption. The project specifically supports day-care facilities for children in implementing education for sustainable development step by step into everyday facility life. The project is funded by Engagement Global gGmbH with its service point for municipalities in one world on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. www.faire-kita-nrw.de
