Our children´s home always closes at 2:30 pm on Fridays.

Introduction/specifics

History of the children's home

In 1993, the market town of Pöttmes began converting the former warehouse building of the Raiffeisenbank Handzell into a kindergarten. Until 2006, the kindergarten was run by the St. Maria Magdalena Catholic Church Foundation.

From September 2006, the market town of Pöttmes took over the sponsorship and gave the kindergarten the new name “Wurzelkinder”.

With the addition of a crèche group in September 2008, our “Ladybirds”, the kindergarten became a children's house.

Current status: Today our nursery offers places for 87 children. These are made up of

a crèche group for children aged 1 year up to kindergarten entry, with 12 places
three kindergarten groups for children from the age of 2.6 until they start school, with a total of 75 childcare places, divided into 25 children per kindergarten group.
2 integrative places
The children are cared for according to the motto

“Go in small - come out big”.

Since 2019, the children's house has been certified as a Kneipp facility. In January 2024, the name officially changed to Kneipp and the other children's houses in the municipality (which also have birds as their facility name) and the Wurzelkindern became the

Rooms

Premises

In our facility you will find

4 group rooms + adjoining rooms, 1 gym, 1 washroom, 1 kitchen, a Snoezel room and a converted basement room, which is available as a further playroom, an office, a staff toilet, a cleaning room and a large garden.

Kindergarten:

Each kindergarten group has a group room with various activity corners (e.g. building, painting or dolls' corner) and its own adjoining room, in which it is possible to carry out specific activities in small groups. All three kindergarten groups have access to a spacious washroom with toilets, a shower and a changing table.

The bright group rooms are divided into different areas and play corners in which the children can move around and play freely. The rooms are arranged according to the children's needs, e.g. building corner, doll's corner, reading corner, office corner, play carpet and can also be changed according to the children's play interests and inclinations.

Crèche:

The children in the crèche group have a group room, a separate toilet, a changing room, sleeping facilities for the children and an adjoining room for individual activities.

General:

Each group has its own kitchenette with fridge in its group room.

All children love movement! Our gymnastics room offers the best possible opportunity to indulge their urge to move during free play and weekly gymnastics.

We have another meeting place in the corridor. This can be rearranged according to the children's needs, e.g. playing with our glitter building blocks, store, bouncy balls etc. Up to 6 children (max. 2 per group) from the different groups meet here to play together according to agreed rules.

Our beautifully designed basement room also offers space for specific activities in small groups. It also houses our ball pool, which the children love to use, as well as a workbench for the master builders among us.

Our snooze corner was opened in January 2024 as a new highlight in our house. Here, the children can find a quiet retreat from everyday life. The corner has been furnished with various cushions at different heights, pillows and blankets and is completely white. The wall was covered with cushions and mirrors. In this room, the children can relax, rest, watch the starry sky projected onto the ceiling, listen to stories, look at picture books, look at the water column with fish or simply pursue their own thoughts. A fragrance diffuser with essential oils rounds off the relaxing sensory experience in our Snoezel room.

Outdoor Facilities

Outdoor area

Our large garden is a daily meeting place for the children from all groups. Many shady trees invite children to play and linger. Our garden offers a large sandpit with a mud kitchen and water pump, a tarred area for various vehicles, swings, climbing towers, a merry-go-round, a slide, a wooden horse, seesaw animals and play opportunities for the little ones. We are particularly proud of our ground trampoline and the generously designed Kneipp pool, which is used a lot, especially in summer, to the delight of the children.

Quality Assurance

Quality

We ensure our quality at the “Kleine Eule” through regular team meetings, regular further training for staff, the conscious implementation of the concept and the protection concept, as well as parent surveys and constructive complaints management and close cooperation with parents and the parents' council.

Small team

The teams of the individual groups have a fixed weekly time frame in which to carry out their weekly educational planning.

For us, this means:

  • Discussion of the group situation
  • Determining the stage of development and the current state of individual children
  • Planning the week with specific activities

Group leader meeting

The group leaders meet once a week. This is mainly about organizational matters and the further development of educational goals.

For us, this means:

  • Planning extracurricular events for the week
  • Cross-group projects
  • Case discussions
  • Mutual support
  • Organization of various processes

Whole team

In order to ensure good educational work, the entire Kinderhaus team meets every 14 days to plan, conduct case discussions, reflect and for quality assurance.

For us, this means in concrete terms:

  • Joint annual planning at the beginning of the kindergarten year
  • Organizing events and festivals with the parents' council
  • Exchange of experience and information
  • Mutual support/collegial advice
  • Revising the concept and educational guidelines, which are binding for all employees
  • Quality management
  • Planning normal operations and reflecting on the work carried out
  • Training/education/further training

Our sponsor, the market town of Pöttmes, is open to a wide range of development opportunities for educational staff. For this reason, the staff at the Kinderhaus have a wide range of opportunities for further education and training. We also see ourselves as a training center that is committed to supporting future supplementary pedagogical staff, educators and pedagogical specialists on their way. To do this, we have to keep up to date with the latest training content. This helps us to always critically examine our work and improve it where necessary.

As we are a certified Kneipp daycare center, the current focus is on ensuring that every member of staff undergoes further training and is qualified to pass on the Kneipp teachings to the children.

Cooperations

Cooperation with other institutions

Early intervention

Our children's home cooperates with the early intervention centers in Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, Hessing and Josefinum Augsburg. This cooperation is a great asset to our children's home. Parents of children with special needs can contact the specialist center directly and receive comprehensive advice on support options. The team has the opportunity to visit an early intervention center once a year.

Therapists

In order to provide the best possible support for children with special needs, we are in contact with their therapists (occupational therapists, speech therapists, remedial teachers, etc.) and support their work by providing assistance and support in the children's house or by observing them.

Other facilities in the community

Cooperation with the other six facilities in the community is a constructive enrichment for our Kinderhaus. The directors meet with the Kinderhaus administration and management at regular intervals to set common standards and discuss generally relevant topics. There is also a regular pedagogical exchange between the management of the various facilities.

Teamwork with school

Cooperation between elementary school and special schools

Cooperation between educational institutions is anchored in state law and regulated in detail for kindergarten and elementary school. The ideal model for the transition from kindergarten to elementary school or special school is optimal coordination between nursery school teachers/educational specialists, primary school teachers, parents and children. At the beginning of the year, an exchange takes place between the management of the children's home and the principal of Pöttmes primary school.

Cooperation concept with the elementary school:

  • Meeting at the elementary school with the head teachers of all kindergartens and the after-school care center to plan the year.
  • Joint parents' evening at the elementary school for parents whose children are starting school the following year.
  • In spring, the school visits the kindergarten with a teacher and pupils from Year 1. This is part of the “Kigs Program”, which school children and pre-school children do together.
  • The pre-school children visit the school.
  • A teacher from the elementary school visits our children's house and there may be consultation with the school about individual children, provided the parents have given their written consent.

The German 240 preliminary course is led by an educator and takes place in our building every Monday from 08:00 - 8:45. The children are selected according to the Sismik and Seldak observation sheets. In a small group, the children are supported in their oral language and literacy development. The methods used are Storytelling, singing, role play, reading aloud, project work, drama etc. The data/observation results are passed on to the elementary school.

In concrete terms, this means for us:

  • Development of a joint cooperation plan with all kindergartens in the community and the elementary school
  • Exchange between teachers and nursery school teachers
  • Preliminary course in the nursery
  • Pre-school children visit the school
  • Close contact with the special schools where necessary
  • Supporting parents in their choice of school
  • Joint attendance of training courses with teachers from the school
  • Support for parents during discussions at school
  • Teachers visit the children's home

Teamwork with parents

Educational partnership with parents

Cooperation with parents and guardians takes place in many different ways at our childcare center:

Conversations with parents

Discussions between parents and teachers are an important part of our educational work. They are so important because they help us to get to know and understand the child. During the children's drop-off and pick-up times, parents and educational staff have the opportunity to exchange brief information. Suggestions and questions are also possible here. There is also always the opportunity to make an appointment for a personal meeting with the group leader.

During the course of the year, a targeted development discussion takes place. Here, the results of the development documentation are discussed, educational goals are agreed and parents' personal concerns are heard.

At the parents' request, an appointment can also be arranged at any time with the head of the childcare center.

Parents' evening

Parents' evenings are held regularly at our childcare center. On the one hand, they are intended to give parents the opportunity to get to know each other better and, on the other hand, to give parents the opportunity to better understand what is happening in the group and to get to grips with our educational work. Parents and teachers can also discuss educational topics. Parent representatives are elected on the first parents' evening at the beginning of the kindergarten year.

An information event is held for new parents before the summer vacations to inform them about the organizational and educational processes that will affect them from September.

Every year in September, there is also an in-group parents' evening to provide further information on procedures, educational work, organizational matters etc. within the group.

Depending on the parents' interests and wishes, we also invite external speakers on topics of interest to us.

Observation and cooperation

Parents are welcome to join us from the very beginning, e.g. to help with projects or to observe the day-to-day life of the group.

To ensure that planned activities are particularly successful, parents are invited to actively participate in the preparation and implementation of various projects.
There are tasks around the year in our kindergarten (e.g. gardening in the fall/spring, face painting at carnival, healthy breakfast in the spring, etc.) which are distributed among the parents at the beginning of the kindergarten year with the help of a list to sign in.

Parents' Council

The Parents' Council is a permanent link between the parents and the educational staff at our kindergarten. It is elected at the beginning of each kindergarten year during the first parents' evening for the duration of the current kindergarten year. For this purpose, two parent representatives are elected in each group of the Kinderhaus. The offices (chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary) are determined at the first parents' council meeting. Depending on requirements and activities, there are between 2 and 3 meetings a year. The Parents' Council has an advisory function, represents the interests of the parents and supports the Kinderhaus. Current topics are discussed at the meetings and celebrations are organized and planned. Parents always have the opportunity to make suggestions or requests and have the right to be informed and consulted.

Parent survey

An anonymous parent survey is handed out once a year. This gives parents the opportunity to comment on certain topics and assess our work and our facility. We are open to ideas, praise and constructive criticism. The evaluation of the survey is displayed in the entrance area of our childcare center.

Complaints options/complaints procedure/complaints management

Our childcare center is open to constructive criticism. We want to respond to problems or difficulties as quickly as possible in order to find a good solution. Parents are encouraged to always address any complaints directly to the person concerned first. If this option does not lead to the desired success, the complaint can be brought to the attention of the childcare center management. If no satisfactory solution is found here either, the parents' council and the children's house administration in the municipality (Mrs. Bux) can be consulted if it concerns organizational/administrative matters. We will then look for appropriate solutions together.

There is also a letterbox, our “feedback box”, on the stairs in the entrance area, into which you can anonymously post a written complaint, praise or other suggestions.

Information for parents

In order to provide parents with comprehensive information about our daycare center, we use a variety of information channels, both analog, in the form of letters, notices and documents, and digital via the Kita-Info-App. This app is made available to all parents at the beginning of the kindergarten year. We can use the app to provide information about the weekly schedule, various projects or activities. We can also use the app to organize inquiries about events, for example. Parents also have the option of reporting their child's illness directly via the app. The costs of this app are borne entirely by the provider.

There are also notices and notes on the pinboard in the entrance area and in front of the respective groups regarding announcements, excursions and current topics.

Parents receive a weekly review and a preview of what is planned for the coming week via the daycare info app.

Current information is also always available on our homepage www.kleine-eule-poettmes.de

You can also find all current dates and the closing schedule on our kindergarten app under Calendar and Pinboard.

Admission is limited to the respective year of care. It can be revoked if the place is required for a child from the municipal area; the legal guardians concerned and their municipality of residence should be consulted in advance.
