Introduction/specifics

CHURCH KINDERGARTEN “UNDER THE RAINBOW”

Our daycare center is called “Under the Rainbow”.

The rainbow is a symbol for us. It stands as a bridge between heaven and earth.

He reminds us of the promise that God made to people: to keep his protective hand over everyone - for all time.

In our daycare center we introduce the children to Christian values and biblical stories through a wide variety of activities throughout the day.

Devotions, morning circles, singing and prayer in a quiet atmosphere at the beginning of the day, at mealtime or at the end of a beautiful event are important to us.

Thanks to the intensive connection with our sponsor, we sometimes prepare Christian celebrations in the church community together and organize them together.

Rooms

We can accommodate 60 children in our house.

The children are cared for in four groups:

- 1 crèche group

- 2 mixed-age kindergarten groups (called "SUNBEAMS" and "RAINDROPS")

- 1 age-homogeneous kindergarten group of future school starters (called "CLOUDS"/ Pre-School)

Each of the four groups has its own group room. This usually consists (due to the circumstances in the old villa) of two rooms next to each other, which are connected to each other by a door or a large opening in the wall.

Our crèche group is located on the ground floor of the villa. The sanitary area is located in the next room, which is partly visible through a glass partition. The bedroom for all crèche children can be reached via a short route through the children's cloakroom.

For early and late shifts, as well as for separate offers, we use our multi-purpose room, the “Yellow Room”. Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe this room and the winter garden in the crèche area in a bright and friendly light and the children have a clear view of the outside.

Our future school starters also have their group room on the ground floor. You use a separate cloakroom in front of the group room and a sanitary area on the upper floor.

The rooms of the two mixed-age family groups are located on the upper floor.

A spacious, friendly washroom offers the children in these groups enough space.

In the group rooms, the children can visually see the separation of the individual areas. Through the furniture, they understand what they can do here and what play options they have. In the play corners on offer, children can let their imagination run wild and process current situations.

They are offered opportunities to retreat to a cozy corner and a book corner.

When furnishing the room, open wooden shelves were mainly used to give the children a view of the play and craft materials inside.

The diverse materials encourage them to discover and develop their creativity and enable them to design freely. In addition to the tables in the group room, the floor offers even more space for games or other activities.

Some of the group rooms are covered with mats for lunchtime rest. Our school starters meet in the "AWAKE" group to relax and then play quietly.

Outdoor Facilities

The large garden surrounding our facility offers the children enough space for active exercise and creativ playing.

On a total area of 1400 m² you will find a wide variety of equipment to play and climb.

In the front area of the garden, children have the opportunity to get active on a climbing combination with a slide and swing, a sand construction site with a mud kitchen and a climbing frame.

Wooden houses encourage hide-and-seek or role-playing. The children test their skills and speed with vehicles on a large scooter path.

Tables and benches invite the kids to linger, paint or play table games. The required materials are available for the children to use independently on a bench.

Behind the house, all crèche children have their own play area.

Our youngest children can have fun playing on an extensive lawn with see-saw animals, a slide and a sandpit. Here they move in a variety of ways and learn to assess their abilities and skills. A large willow house offers a popular retreat.

Using age-appropriate vehicles and a variety of play materials, the children test themselves and develop their body awareness and skills in the fresh air.

Old, tall trees provide plenty of cool shade during the day. Areas without shady trees are protected by awnings.

Basics

OUR MISSION

Our daycare center is called "Under the Rainbow".

For us, the rainbow is a symbol of hope. It stands as a bridge between heaven and earth. He reminds us of the promise God made to mankind: to hold His protective hand over all—for all time.

In our house, the children and employees should experience themselves as God's creatures – unique and precious, but at the same time limited and dependent on forgiveness. We are guided by the colors of the rainbow.

Red:

The children and educators experience acceptance and security by trusting in God.

Orange:

We see ourselves as educational partners in the mutual interaction between parents and children.

Yellow:

We make the work in the facility transparent and are an enrichment for the community.

Green:

We teach respect for God's creation and support our children in taking responsibility for themselves,  others and our world.

Blue:

Our facility is open to anyone who wants to get involved in a Christian daycare center.

Indigo:

Through early education, children gain basic experiences and acquire skills to become strong for their lives.

Violet:

As part of the parish and its traditions, the day-care centre passes on values for life to the children and opens up access to the Christian faith for them.

All the colors together tell of God's blessing for life. The rainbow is a bridge between the parish and the day-care centre. It brings together children, parents, educators and parishioners and also invites people who want to experience an atmosphere of Christian church life.

Group composition

The crèche group

In our daycare group, children under the age of 3 are looked after by two caregivers in everyday group life. The children experience a daily routine that is structured by fixed times for recurring processes. This creates security and orientation and addresses the needs of the children.

In free play, the children explore their surroundings with their thirst for research and discovery.

We welcome crèche children all year round.

When a child comes to daycare for the first time, it is important to us that we ensure a gentle and sensitive adjustment for the entire family.

The "SUNBEAMS" and the "RAINDROPS" group

The "SUNBEAMS" and the "RAINDROPS" are family groups. Children from the age of 2 years and 9 months are accepted and remain in the group until the beginning of the last year of kindergarten. Both groups are supervised by a teacher.

The group size varies throughout the kindergarten year, just as children are added to the groups from daycare, through immigration or as newcomers.

Because the groups are mixed in age, the younger ones have the chance to learn from the older children. In return, the older ones show consideration for the younger ones and learn to take responsibility and be helpful to them.

The "CLOUDS" group

Approximately 12 children attend the cloud group in the last year before starting school. They will be looked after by a teatcher. The promotion of independence, the transfer of increasing independent responsibility and support in solving problems are very important for the children. This strengthens self-esteem so that the transition into everyday school life can be as successful as possible.

In the last year before starting school, children have the opportunity to strengthen their anticipation of school and strengthen their motivation to learn through many activities.

The highlight of this last kindergarten year is the three-day final trip to Töpelwinkel. There the group enjoys what the Naturfreundehaus has to offer and celebrates the sugar cone festival with the parents.

Additional Offerings

Sports offer

In order to give the children even more opportunities to engage in intensive sporting activity, we visit a nearby gymnasium once a week with up to two groups of children. Here the children have the opportunity to fulfill their urge to move. They perceive their bodies in a different way and develop their own body awareness by carrying out targeted physical exercises. The children have a lot of fun trying out sports and competing against each other.

Early musical education

A music teacher visits our facility once a week. In a period of 30 minutes per group, the children gain a broad insight into the world of music. In addition to rhythmic exercises, movement songs and small dances, various instruments or special pieces of music are also occasionally presented. This offer is fully financed by the daycare support association.

English offer

An english speaking teacher is coming in the house once a week and communicates with the children while the groupteacher is present. He works with the children on a variety of topics, such as family, colors, animals, numbers and much more, using English children's songs and rhymes to support them. Worksheets and “magic books” are designed together to provide deeper understanding. A “pancake break” rounds off the year-round offer as a highlight.

The support association covers most of the costs for this course. The parents contribute a little amount by their own.

Healthy breakfast

On the first Wednesday of the month we start the day with a “healthy breakfast”. Using a list of various foods for parents to bring with them, we offer the children on both floors a balanced meal with lots of fruit, vegetables and whole foods in the form of a buffet. The children have the opportunity to get to know lesser-known or preferred foods. Several helping parents' hands support the preparation of this offer and the children with the selection and putting it on their own plate.

Water habituation

The children in our cloud group (children in their last year before starting school) take part in a water familiarization course in the Splash. On 10 course days, once a week, the children exercise in the element of water. This offer supports and promotes the joy of movement in the water and can make learning to swim easier later.

At the end of the course there is the opportunity to pass zhe examination on the first swimming level.

The support association covers most of the costs for this course. The parents contribute their own little amount of money.

Specifics

"AWAKE" group

All children in the last year before starting school, the children in the cloud group, no longer lie down to sleep during their naptime rest period.

There is a guard group for them.

Between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., the accompanying educator will organize a half-hour program. This rest period is quiet and harmonious so that the children can recover from the morning's experiences.

The children can then actively engage with the topics that concern them again. We ensure a calm and balanced atmosphere not disturbing the sleeping children.

Our support association

Our association was founded in 1996 and has set itself the goal of supporting and promoting the children of the “Under the Rainbow” daycare center in a variety of ways in order to give them the best conditions for their lives. In concrete terms, this means that we finance early musical education for all children. In addition, we cover a large part of the costs for getting used to water and teaching initial English skills for the group of school beginners. We also cover the travel costs for excursions and graduation trips and much more. In order to generate additional important financial resources for the implementation of the association's goals in addition to the membership fees, we organize various campaigns, festivals and holidays. Since the organization of such events always requires many creative minds and committed colleagues, we are always happy about every helping hand.

Description and Stations

Our daycare center is located near the city center not far from the city forest.

Our house itself is an old villa that was converted into a facility for children after the end of the war. Today you can still feel the flair of the venerable building both in the interior and in the stairwell.

We benefit from the convenient location to the city center with the town hall and museum, to the O-Park with extensive grounds and a zoo, to the city forest for nature-oriented walks, the stop of the Döllnitzbahn “Wilder Robert” for distant excursions and the “Platsch” for swimming fun.

Under local administration until 1996, the forerunner of today's Oschatzer Land parish took over the running of the daycare center.

The church towers of the town church “St. Aegidia” shape the city’s silhouette and are visible from afar. From here the children can also see them over the roofs of the houses. We use this proximity to visit places of worship and maintain close contact with church staff.

If you follow the road signs to the “Platsch-Bad” and the “European Youth Camp” (EJC), you will automatically reach Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße in Oschatz. Another landmark is the “Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium”, which is located across the street from our daycare center.
