Introduction/specifics

The day care centre Geschwister Scholl Straße is a day care centre with one crèche group (10 children aged 1-3 years) and two day care groups (32 children aged 3 years to school entry). It is located in Marburg's northern quarter on Ortenberg adjacent to the Waldtal district close to the forest. Both 2pm and 5pm places are available to families.

It is situated on a slope and is divided into two floors. Depending on the season, you can catch a beautiful view of the castle and part of the railway station.

Rooms

On the upper floor are the crèche room with movement level, the home group rooms, the functional rooms role play and creative room, the library, the children's restaurant and the kitchen.

On the lower floor you will find the large movement room with different materials such as natural Hengstenberg wood and equipment, wall bars, ball pool, soft floors, roller skates, roller boards and much more to encourage movement.

This is also the room where the preschool children have their regular group.

Each group has access to the garden.

Outdoor Facilities

The garden and the outdoor area have different levels and offer many incentives for movement due to the slope. In winter, the slope can even be used for sledging.

Each of the two levels is characterised by a dense planting of cedars, willow, maple, mirabelle trees and many hedges that can be played on in many ways. There are shady areas, small secret hiding places, a raised bed, a material hut, two large sandpits, a play and exercise equipment, a swing and three fixed table groups.

Food

Four days a week, the children bring their breakfast from home. We ask parents to be mindful of "healthy" food and their children's preferences. Every Wednesday, the kitchen offers a weekly changing breakfast, which can consist of healthy elements such as wholemeal bread, cheese, sausage, raw vegetables, muesli and the like. From 07.00 to 09.30 the children can decide for themselves whether, when and with whom they want to have breakfast. In the core groups, however, there are also times when we have breakfast together. The children especially look forward to our traditional Easter and St. Nicholas breakfasts.

Lunch is prepared fresh daily by a cook on site. We place great value on seasonal and regional organic products when selecting the meals. The children's restaurant opens for the crèche children at around 11.30 a.m. and from around 12.15 p.m. the after-school children can decide for themselves when they would like to eat. The children's restaurant closes at about 1.45 pm.

In the afternoon, around 3.00 pm, the children are offered another afternoon snack. From fresh fruit to curd cheese and sandwiches to waffles or freshly baked cake, there is usually something for everyone.
