Introduction/specifics

The day care centre introduces itself

The Kita Am Teich is one of 17 day care centres run by the University City of Marburg. We can accommodate up to 60 children from the age of 3 until they start compulsory schooling.

Our team consists of sensitive people who accompany your children with joy, humour and professionalism. It is important to all of us that your children feel comfortable with us, make friends, develop individually and grow together.

Our day care team consists of educational specialists, interns, kitchen and housekeeping staff and a cleaner.

In our facility, we work according to the situational approach and the needs-oriented work in accordance with the Hessian education and upbringing plan.

Together with you as the family, we strengthen your child's personality development at all levels. We regard each child as a unique person who brings with him or her his or her own personality, biography and life circumstances. As professionals, we want to engage in dialogue with children in an appreciative and curious manner.

Basics

Pedagogical work

An important aspect of the situational approach is participation. However, it is not only from our pedagogical understanding that we attach great importance to the participation of children in our facility, it is also legally justified in § 45 Para. 2 No. 3 SGB VIII. Here it is made clear that children have a right to be appropriately involved in matters that are important to them. In our understanding, this refers to the entire everyday life in our facility. We take children's wishes and needs seriously and look for ways to implement them together. In this way, children perceive themselves as self-efficacious and experience themselves as equal to the pedagogical staff.

Participation takes place in our facility through attentive observation, dialogues with individual children or in a consultation hour as well as through theme/project circles. The children in our facility know that they have the opportunity to express feedback and requests for change. We are concerned with the participation of each individual child as well as with the learning of democratic processes.

We see the child as an independent personality with individual developmental needs and interests. By working in the functional rooms (role play room, creative room, building room, movement room, library), the children are given various choices. They can organise their activities according to their own interests and wishes.

Teamwork with parents

Settling in

Settling in - why and how?

A new phase of life begins for you and your child. Family care is supplemented by the day care centre. The settling-in phase gives your child time to become familiar with the new environment. During this time, you and your child should build up a trusting relationship with the professionals. Children can adjust particularly well to the new situation if you also trust them and feel comfortable with them. Therefore, it is important for us to involve you intensively in the process, which is an indispensable part of it.

How long does the settling-in period last?

The acclimatisation process in the municipal day care centres is based on the Berlin and Munich model. In an initial meeting, you will get to know your child's caregiver and talk about your child and your questions. During the first few days, you and your child will stay together at the day care centre. Depending on the situation, we will decide together how long the first taster sessions at the day care centre will last. The specialist observes your child and establishes contact through play activities. Gradually, the specialist takes over more and more of your child's care in order to build up trust. You are present and respond to your child when he or she needs you. When the first separation attempt is made, you say goodbye to your child, leave the room for an agreed period of time and stay in our home. Every goodbye is hard and sometimes there are tears. However, if your child allows himself to be comforted by the specialist and plays with her, the separation phases can be gradually extended. The final phase (after approx. 3 - 4 weeks) is reached when your child has accepted the specialist as a "safe base" and has made contact with other children. During this time, we are in constant communication with you. We know that the step into the day care centre is not always easy for you either. It is important to us that you get to know our work, gain trust and that we work together as partners.

What else is important:

Experience shows that settling in takes between 3 and 6 weeks and depends on the individual child. Therefore, please plan at least four weeks for the settling-in period, during which you are not yet dependent on full-day care. This way we can be flexible and respond well to your child's individual needs. You will help your child if there are no other changes (e.g. holidays, moving house) in the family during the settling-in period. It is also good if your child visits the facility every day. This helps your child to get used to the new situation quickly.

Do the teachers make everything better?

It is normal for children to build trusting relationships outside of home and to become enthusiastic about everyday life at the day care centre. Many things are done differently in the day care centre than at home. However, it is not a substitute for the parental home. Children can easily adjust to the fact that there are different rules at home than at the day care centre, for example. You as parents are our most important educational partners.

Do you have any questions?

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help you. We look forward to a good and trusting cooperation so that you and your child feel comfortable.
