Introduction/specifics

At the Kinderhaus on the Bühl and the Nido Montessori Kinderhaus on the Schöpflin campus, care is provided for children from twelve months of age until they start school — all under one roof.

The Nido Montessori Kinderhaus has been part of the Kinderhaus since 2004 and, with the new building opened in September 2010, offers twenty places for children aged twelve months to three years.

Young children at the Kinderhaus Schöpflin are cared for in a safe environment within a small group of no more than ten children.

Children transition from the security of their family and can gently acclimate to daily routines and the group setting together with a parent. Parents are actively involved in this separation process, which is sensitively and individually supported. In the nurturing environment of the Kinderhaus, young children can often have their first experiences outside their immediate family and begin to expand their social world. To ensure this transition is successful, it is important to give the child the time they need to build trust in their new environment and caregivers. A strong, secure attachment is the foundation for a happy and carefree time at the Kinderhaus.

Outdoor Facilities

Easily accessible by bus, train, bicycle, on foot, or by car, the Nido Montessori Kinderhaus is nestled in a beautiful parkland with old, mature trees.
A traditional garden, orchards, the "jungle," the greenhouse, and the "chicken house" offer plenty of space for movement, observation, and hands-on experiences in and with nature.

Basics

Maria Montessori and Emmi Pikler consistently focused on the child and supported their needs. The goal is to create external conditions that help the child develop their full potential.

This requires an observant educator who recognizes and supports the child’s impulses. Adults wait respectfully, acknowledging and honoring the child's rhythm and pace of development.
