Introduction/specifics

The Malteser Kita Schatzinsel was founded in 2019 and was able to move into the new building on Hollandsweg in 2021. The daycare center is run by Malteser Hilfsdienst e.V. in the Westphalia-Lippe district with its office in Paderborn. The specialist advice is provided by the Diözesan-Caritasverband Paderborn e.V..

Our goal is to create a place of well-being for the children, their families and our employees and to strengthen families. Therefore, we try to make the care as flexible as possible while keeping the needs and well-being of the children in focus.

The groups are:

  • Pebbles (0-3 years)
  • Grains of sand (0-3 years)
  • Shells (2-6 years)
  • Starfish (2-6 years)
  • Dunes (3-6 years)
  • Coast (3-6 years)

The drop-off and pick-up times are from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m.

The facility is open a total of 47.5 hours a week. We offer 45 hour and 35 hour (flexible) care models. The childcare time with a 45-hour contract can be chosen flexibly within the opening hours. The parents of children with a 35-hour contract set exact care times every six months, which can only be changed in consultation with the daycare center.

We use the daycare app “kitaplus”. The app has a facility calendar, a bulletin board for general information and a personal mailbox for communication between the daycare center and the respective parents. If necessary, parents can also deregister the child in the morning. The food for the day can be ordered until 8 a.m. Meals are billed on a daily basis as part of a prepaid system.

Rooms

The Malteser Kita Schatzinsel is located in a one-story, barrier-free building. The groups each have access to a group room, two adjoining rooms, a washroom and a cloakroom. The spacious multi-purpose room, the foyer and the learning workshop are shared. Other functional areas include the kitchen, the staff room, the meeting room, the office and the utility room.

Clear structures in the room design provide the children with guidance. The color scheme is calm and close to nature. The furniture is child-friendly and thus promotes children's independence and their urge to explore and discover. The play materials are selected according to the interests of the children and the teaching staff, presented at children's level and regularly exchanged.

The decoration in the rooms is designed independently by groups. This means that children's works of art receive recognition and appreciation.

Outdoor Facilities

In the shade of the large oak trees, children can let off steam on the large climbing frame, the sand and mud area, the nest swing, the driving track or the discovery hill. The inner courtyard offers enough space for role-playing games and relaxing. You can play and eat together in the group gardens, which are accessible directly from the group rooms. The children look after raised beds with flowers, fruit and vegetables and look forward to the delicious harvest every year.

In the nursary group area, the climbing frame, the sand and mud area, the swing and the seating area are designed so that children under 3 years of age can move independently and in an age-appropriate manner.

The groups regularly go on excursions to the Hövelhofer Forest and the surrounding playgrounds. The agricultural environment allows a wide view and often arouses the interest of children.

The Malteser Kita Schatzinsel is easily accessible on foot or by bike from the center of town. There are sufficient parking spaces for strollers, balance bikes, ferry bikes, scooters, go-karts, etc. as well as cars.

Daily Schedule

The daily routine is tailored to the needs of the children. Regulated times and rituals give the children orientation and security. At the same time, there is enough room for flexibility and individual design.

Food

Important foundations for lifelong, health-promoting eating habits are laid in early childhood. Together with the parents, we want to introduce the children to a healthy and balanced diet. This means that children learn from the start that delicious, wholesome meals are good for you, fun and taste good.

Every meal is eaten together within the group. This strengthens the feeling of community and promotes a communal eating culture.

The children bring breakfast from home. The lunch is regenerated on site by our kitchen team using the Cook & Freeze process and expanded with fresh components. As a snack, we provide fresh, regional and seasonal fruit and vegetables from the local organic market.

When planning meals, we take the children's preferences, special characteristics and allergies into account.

Basics

The focus of our educational work is the child. Every child is valuable and unique to us, regardless of their origin, ethnicity, gender, religion or possible disability. We accompany, educate, raise and support children holistically in their individual development and learning processes and provide supportive help to develop their personality.

We promote a "culture of helping". We treat ourselves and each other with care. We encourage the children to relate to each other socially so that they learn not only to formulate their own needs, but also those of other children. The approach of modern Montessori pedagogy ("Help me to do it myself") provides us with orientation.

The basis of our actions are the Christian view of humanity and Catholic social teaching.

Quality Assurance

As a member of the Verband katholischer Tageseinrichtungen für Kinder (KTK), we base our quality assurance and development on the content of the federal framework manual "KTK - Quality Seal". This refers to a total of nine quality areas:

  • Children
  • Parents
  • Pastoral area
  • Social area
  • Faith
  • Providers and management
  • Personnel
  • Resources
  • Quality development and quality assurance

The implementation of the individual requirements for the quality areas is regularly reflected in the team meetings and the educational days.
