Introduction/specifics

Welcome to our Kita Sterntaler!

We are pleased that you are interested in our Kita. Below, we would like to introduce ourselves to you.

Our daycare is a municipal institution of the city of Bad Wünnenberg and is located in the district of Haaren. We care for 45 children aged from four months up to school entry in three small groups. In our “Cloud Group” (Wolkengruppe), up to ten children under three years old are cared for. The older children attend the “Sun Group” (Sonnengruppe) and the “Moon Group” (Mondgruppe).

Cross-group interaction is very important to us in everyday life so that the children feel comfortable throughout the entire building and can develop well. Another focus is Kneipp health care for children, based on the principles of Sebastian Kneipp. The five elements — water, nutrition, exercise, order of life, and medicinal plants — are integrated and actively lived in our educational daily routine.

Rooms

In our facility, we offer children a variety of opportunities to be active, move around, and find quiet spaces. The spacious, bright rooms of the daycare center extend over two floors. On the ground floor, you’ll find the Sun and Moon groups with their respective specialized rooms. There is also a movement room, an open-designed entrance area, and a kitchen with adjoining dining rooms. The Cloud group, along with its sleeping room, is located on the upper floor. We place great importance on continuously adapting all rooms to the interests of the children.

Outdoor Facilities

Our facility offers a spacious and welcoming outdoor area that provides children with a wide range of opportunities for play, exploration, and discovery. The space is divided into two sections, ensuring that our under-three children also have access to a safe, age-appropriate play area tailored to their needs.

The larger part of the outdoor area features various play and experience zones that invite active movement. Here, children can climb, run, and play freely on large open spaces and a mud track.

Food

Lunch is delivered daily by a catering service. Parents independently order the meals via a parent app. The costs are based on the annual household income.

At our daycare, lunch is served in small groups. This creates a calm and relaxed environment where children feel comfortable and learn to respect one another.

We approach mealtime mindfully, focusing not only on nutrition but also on fostering social interaction. We place great importance on a family-like atmosphere where every child feels safe and valued.

Basics

At the center of our educational work is the child with all their wishes, needs, and individual characteristics. A respectful attitude towards children and parents forms the basis for a trusting collaboration.

The pedagogy we apply is based on needs-oriented education. This approach is grounded in the understanding of children's needs for closeness, security, and autonomy by recognizing children's signals, responding empathetically, and building a stable bond. In doing so, the needs of the children, the parents, and the educators are equally taken into account, and clear, comprehensible boundaries are set.

We accompany the children in their development and provide them with space to develop independently and freely, in order to support them purposefully in the ten different areas of education.

Qualification

We place great importance on the continuous professional development of our team in order to consistently ensure and further improve the quality and professionalism of our educational work. This is achieved through training sessions, team meetings, and regular reflection on our educational practices.

One of our major projects is the certification as a Kneipp daycare center. Since 2024, all pedagogical staff have been trained as Kneipp educators. This training has equipped us in all areas of Kneipp’s philosophy, and it is very important to us to integrate these principles into everyday life to enable children to grow up healthy and consciously.

Additional Offerings

Kneipp Health for Children

Kneipp health education for children based on Sebastian Kneipp is a central component of our pedagogical work. The five elements—water, nutrition, movement, lifestyle balance, and medicinal plants—are integrated into everyday activities and actively practiced.

We offer forest and nature days on a weekly basis. This gives the children the opportunity to explore and experience their environment with all of their senses.

In the final year of kindergarten, the preschool children are offered a variety of activities. They work on many topics that correspond to their interests and needs.

Therapy Dog Theo

Since mid-September, Theo has enriched our daily life at the daycare center. Theo is an almost two-year-old Tibetan Doodle whose special coat sheds very little and is therefore also well tolerated by children with allergies. Together with his handler, Jessica Lickmeyer, Theo successfully completed his therapy dog training in December 2025.

A therapy dog like Theo can be a valuable support in many areas of daycare life. He creates a relaxed atmosphere in which children can speak and learn without fear. The children are encouraged to talk, ask questions, and share their thoughts freely—without it feeling like “practice.”

In addition, through their interaction with Theo, the children learn important values such as consideration, empathy, and responsibility. They experience that a living being has needs and deserves respect. This forms an important foundation for respectful and social interaction. Animals also convey a sense of security and calm, helping children reduce stress and feel safe.

Cooperations

To ensure the best possible support for the children, we place great importance on close collaboration with various partners. We are building a network that connects parents, schools, counseling centers, and other institutions such as speech therapy and occupational therapy.

Through exchange and cooperation, we create a supportive environment for the children and strengthen the transitions between educational and care facilities. This way, we can respond to needs early, find joint solutions, and optimally support the development of the children.
