Current information

Introduction/specifics

We are pleased that you are interested in our day care center St. Johannes. We would like to introduce ourselves briefly:      Our facility is centrally located in the downtown area of the city of Salzkotten, in a traffic-calmed zone. The parish church of St. Johannes is in the immediate vicinity. Within walking distance are the city park, the public library, the market place, various playgrounds and the elementary school.

Currently, 51 children aged 4 months to school age attend our day care center in 3 groups.

One focus of our work is the partially open concept. The children can play in their own group as well as in many other rooms of the daycare center. There is also the choice of movement and play in the outdoor area. The children decide on their play according to their interests and independently.

Another focus is religious education. Through stories from the life of Jesus, preparation and celebration of religious festivals in the annual cycle, the singing of religious songs and daily prayer, the children learn the basics of religious education. The different age groups are taken into account in the implementation.

A room design that stimulates the children's urge to learn and explore is also one of our priorities. Sufficient space is created for undisturbed activities of the children and for places of retreat. The pedagogical staff observes the children's play behavior and adapts the room design together with the children.

Rooms

Children spend a large part of their day in the daycare center; it is their everyday living space. The room design of the daycare center must reconcile many things and take into account the suggestions and wishes of the children.

The atmospherically appealing rooms are accessible without barriers and stimulate the children's self-activity.

In the group rooms and adjoining rooms, the children find different play and retreat areas, e.g. a construction area, a role play area and a creative area. Each group has its own washroom with changing table, the U3 group have a small changing room and a washroom.

The spacious hallway is constantly redesigned according to the needs of the children.

In the gymnastics room, a movement construction site is set up daily, where the children can actively perceive themselves, romp around and use their bodily functions in a targeted manner.

The rooms of the nest group (GF 2), a group room and an adjoining room, are chosen and furnished in such a way that they offer the children sufficient protection and retreat possibilities, but at the same time also age-appropriate sensory stimulation, different learning areas and enough space for their natural urge to move.

In three bedrooms, we offer the younger children the opportunity to take a midday nap.

Furthermore, our daycare center includes a kitchen, office, staff room, stroller storage room, basement and utility room.

Outdoor Facilities

There are many opportunities to move and discover outdoors on the near-natural outdoor grounds. A hilly landscape, swings, horizontal bars, a sand area and a pasture tunnel are examples of this. A separate area for the U3 children allows them to play in a protected and safe setting with age-appropriate outdoor play equipment.

The older children in our daycare can also try out and develop their skills on playground equipment appropriate to their age, such as our climbing tower and the various vehicles.

The use of the activity, movement and retreat possibilities by the children is regularly checked by the pedagogical staff and adapted to the situation if necessary. In order to create individual (outdoor) play, the children are offered challenging play and creative opportunities that appeal to their senses. Depending on the weather, materials such as tents, blankets, boxes, etc. are available to the children for movement games.

Basics

Our daycare center wants to support children in shaping their lives and their participation in society and in the church to a growing extent independently and on their own responsibility. The Christian image of man, which is based on the dignity of the individual child and his or her right to education, upbringing and participation, is the benchmark for our actions.

Qualification

Different professional professions are represented in our KiTa:

  • Pediatric nurse
  • Educator
  • Social pedagogue
  • Social worker

Quality Assurance

The pedagogical quality of our work is further developed and secured on the basis of the IQUE concept (Integrated Quality and Personnel Development). Holistic educational offerings, family-friendly counseling services, developmentally appropriate U3 care and family-friendly afternoon care are central goals by which we measure our work. In our facility, the children are actors in their learning and actions. Democracy building and participation are firmly anchored in the day-to-day life of the daycare center.

Cooperations

The day care center strives to build a network with other institutions that can contribute to the expansion of the center's competencies. The maintenance of these relationships through contacts is an essential factor in the further development of the services offered.

Cooperation partners include:

  • Pastoral team
  • catholic day care centers in the city area
  • Kindergartens of the city Salzkotten
  • Elementary school and special schools
  • pediatricians, therapists, SPZ
  • Educational counseling center and early intervention center
  • Fire department, traffic patrol, hospital
  • Health department, dentist and dental health working group
  • Schools and training centers

Teamwork with parents

The basis of parental work is formed by the legal requirements, such as the parents' general meeting, the parents' council and the daycare center council.

The cooperation with the parents takes place at the group level, during "door to door" conversations, regular development discussions, as well as during parents' evenings and parents' actions.

Trusting cooperation and a constant exchange with the parents is essential for a good educational partnership.

Overview

When filling vacant places for the new kindergarten year, priority is given to children who have a so-called legal entitlement. According to the current legal situation, as of 01.08.2013, these are the children who have reached the age of one by 01 November of the upcoming kindergarten year.

If more children want a childcare place than there are free places in the daycare center, the children are selected using a points system based on the following criteria:

  • Age of the child
  • Denomination
  • Sibling
  • Social space
  • Individual circumstances

Children are given priority for admission based on their score.
