Profile of the Municipal Daycare Centre Goethestraße

At the Municipal Daycare Centre Goethestraße, we provide a caring and stimulating environment for a total of 143 children. Our centre consists of four nursery groups, four kindergarten groups, and one nature group. Bright group rooms, activity rooms, and multifunctional spaces offer children plenty of opportunities to play, explore, learn, and grow.

Being part of a permanent group gives children a sense of security, stability, and belonging. At the same time, they are encouraged to interact with children from other groups. They may visit other groups, play together in the hallways and outdoor areas, and participate in regular cross-group activities and excursions.

Our spacious outdoor environment offers countless opportunities for physical activity, exploration, and imaginative play. Located on the outskirts of Knittlingen, our centre also benefits from easy access to nature, allowing us to enjoy regular walks and outdoor experiences in the surrounding countryside.

As an active member of the local community, we place great importance on maintaining strong partnerships with local and regional clubs, businesses, and other organisations. These collaborations enrich our educational work and strengthen children's connection to their community.

Our Nature Group – "The Wagtails"

Our nature group, "The Wagtails," has its own outdoor area adjacent to the daycare centre, providing ample space for active play, exploration, gardening, planting, and harvesting. A wooden shelter offers protection during bad weather while also serving as a storage area for equipment and children's belongings.

The group regularly explores nearby forests, fields, streams, and lakes. Experiencing nature throughout the changing seasons stimulates the children's senses, nurtures their curiosity, and encourages a respectful and mindful relationship with the natural environment.

The children in the nature group are also closely connected to the main daycare centre. They regularly use our workshop, library, and gymnasium and participate in cross-group activities, projects, and excursions alongside the other groups.

Educational Philosophy and Guiding Principles

Our educational approach is inspired by the conviction of Friedrich Fröbel:

"Education is based on example and love."

We are also guided by the words of François Rabelais:

"Children are not vessels to be filled, but fires to be kindled."

Every child is unique and is at the centre of our educational work. We recognise and value each child's individual interests, strengths, and needs. Children actively contribute ideas that shape our daily routines, activities, and projects, allowing them to become active participants in their own learning.

We warmly welcome all children and their families and treat one another with respect, appreciation, and openness. We see ourselves as partners with parents in the education and development of their children. Open communication and transparency are essential to our work and are maintained through parent-teacher meetings, parent evenings, newsletters, notice boards, and activity calendars.
