Welcome to Spatzennest Kindergarten!

Guided by this philosophy, we accompany the children at Spatzennest with heart, time, and space—creating an environment where they are encouraged to explore, experiment, and grow. We value each child as an individual and support their development with care, respect, and joy.

Our kindergarten is centrally located in the heart of Kleinostheim and is easily accessible on foot as well as by bus and train, making everyday life more convenient for families.

We offer 100 childcare places for children from the age of 2 years and 9 months. The children are cared for in four lovingly designed groups, each with up to 25 children. Each group is typically supported by three dedicated early childhood educators, providing stability, guidance, and trusting relationships.

Our team is regularly supported by student interns, who enrich daily life at the kindergarten and serve as additional play partners and trusted companions for the children.

A special highlight of Spatzennest Kindergarten is our spacious, nature-oriented outdoor area. Tall trees, open grassy spaces, and varied sand play areas invite children to move freely, explore their surroundings, and engage their imagination—in all kinds of weather and throughout every season.

Food

A Good Start to the Day

To ensure a positive start to the day, children bring their breakfast from home, lovingly packed in a lunchbox and their kindergarten bag.
We place great importance on a balanced, low-sugar diet to help children stay healthy, energized, and focused throughout the morning.

Drinks such as still or sparkling water, unsweetened tea, and milk are available to the children at all times throughout the day.

Lunch – Flexible and Child-Friendly

At 12:00 noon, it is time for our shared lunch break. Parents can choose between two options, depending on what best suits their child and family routine:

Option 1: “Cold Lunch”
Your child brings an additional lunchbox with a prepared meal from home.

Option 2: “Hot Lunch”
Your child receives a freshly prepared hot meal, delivered daily by our caterer Vera’s Vitaminreich. The menu is balanced, varied, and designed with children’s needs in mind:

• 1–2 meat dishes per week

• Fish once per week

• Soup or a sweet main dish once per week

• 1–2 vegetarian meals per week

This ensures variety on the plate, caters to different tastes, and supports a healthy and well-balanced diet for every child.

At Spatzennest Kindergarten, we support children in a warm and stimulating environment based on a partially open concept, which combines security and a sense of belonging with diverse opportunities for learning and development.

Our kindergarten consists of four core groups, each with up to 25 children: the Frogs, Squirrels, Moles, and Butterflies. Each core group offers the children a stable point of reference with dedicated early childhood educators and its own group room. These rooms are child-friendly and thoughtfully designed, including areas for free play, building and construction, meals, role play, as well as arts and creative activities.

In addition, we embrace a partially open approach: on selected days and at specific times, children—always in consultation with our educators—have the opportunity to engage in group-overlapping activities, explore different rooms, and interact with children from other groups. This encourages social skills, independence, and learning from one another.

Our specialized activity rooms provide a wide range of experiences and opportunities for discovery, including a play and movement hall, ball pit, Snoezelen room, library, play and learning workshop, and our pretend grocery store.

A special focus of our educational work is group-overlapping project work. In joint projects based on the children’s interests, they experience participation, teamwork, and creative learning beyond the boundaries of their core groups.

Since physical activity is very important to us, each group also has a fixed movement day once a week, which takes place in our specially equipped gym. This supports the children’s motor development and overall well-being.

For our preschool children, we offer a comprehensive pre-school program. This includes the well-established programs “Wuppi” (phonological awareness) and “Numberland”, which playfully introduce essential skills for a successful start at school.
In addition, a German language support course is offered in cooperation with the Kettler Primary School in Kleinostheim, creating a smooth and supportive transition from kindergarten to primary school.

At Spatzennest Kindergarten, children—with their individual strengths, interests, and needs—are always at the center of our work. We support them attentively, respectfully, and with great joy as they grow and learn.
