Introduction/specifics

Welcome to the AWO childcare centre Sternentor!

AWO Kinderkrippe Sternentor is a socio-educational day care centre for the education, upbringing and care of children aged from one year to three years.

The facility was opened in Hallbergmoos in September 2011. Initially, the premises were located in a container building in the Goldach district and comprised four groups. In March 2013, the centre was expanded to include an additional group. With the completion of the new building, the Sternentor day nursery moved into the new building at Enghoferweg 17 in Hallbergmoos in December 2013. In January 2014, the Sternentor crèche began operating in the new building, expanding not only in terms of space, but also with the addition of an extra group. Our 6-group facility is run by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Bezirksverband Oberbayern e.V. (AWO BV Obb. e.V.). The AWO is a modern, non-denominational umbrella organisation of independent welfare services in Germany.

Rooms

The Sternentor crèche accommodates 6 groups. Each group has its own group room with adjoining sanitary facilities and bedroom. Three groups are located on the ground floor with direct access to the garden and three groups on the upper floor with access to the large balcony.

  • 1 team cloakroom
  • 1 parents' meeting room

  • 1 cleaning room
  • 1 laundry room

Outdoor Facilities

Our garden area of around 1430 square metres offers numerous and varied opportunities for play and discovery.

In addition to a water playground, a bird's nest swing, a climbing frame, a crawling tunnel, a slide, a large sand area and tree trunks for balancing, the spacious grounds also offer plenty of room to let off steam. The garden can be conquered anew every day!

Daily Schedule

Our daily routine allows for a flexible organisation adapted to the children and at the same time provides an orientating structure through its fixed elements.

7.00 am - 8.30 am:

Arrival of the children. Each child is welcomed in the group or early morning room. A brief exchange with the parents provides us with information that may be important for the child's daily routine.

8.30 am:

End of drop-off time, start of core pedagogical time

8.30 am - 8.40 am:

Morning circle to provide a ritual introduction to the day at the crèche.

8.30 am - 11.30 am:

We organise this time freely according to the children's needs. Learning and experience opportunities, free play, snacks, resting, cuddling, personal hygiene, movement opportunities in the room, in the gym, in the garden, etc. find their place here.

11.00 a.m. - approx. 11.30 a.m:

Lunch

11.30 am - 12.00 pm:

Washroom with nappy changing or toileting, brushing teeth

12.00 pm:

The children who have a nap in our centre are accompanied to sleep. The children who are picked up by 12.30 pm have time to play in the Tunhalle.

12.00 pm - 2.00 pm:

Nap and rest time

12.30 pm

End of the pedagogical core time and first pick-up time

2.00 pm - 5.00 pm:

After waking up, the children have a snack. This is followed by free play time in the group, in the corridor, in the gym or in the garden.

Slight deviations in the daily routine in the respective groups are possible, as the organisation is very individual to the children, but the individual elements can be found in all groups.

Food

The children at our centre receive full board.

The catering flat rate is €81.50 per month and includes (depending on booking times) breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and drinks. Fruit and vegetables, mainly seasonal, are offered with all meals.

Breakfast / Snack time

The crèche staff serve all children a balanced, varied and healthy snack in the morning and afternoon. Great importance is attached to the active participation of the children during preparation. The food is sourced regionally from REWE.

Lunch

Lunch is supplied by the company Ascher, which specialises in catering for day-care centres. The meals are prepared for the groups by our housekeeping staff at the centre.

Drinks

Water is available to the children throughout the day. We also offer unsweetened tea or, on special occasions (birthday parties, Easter breakfast, etc.), juice spritzers.

Basics

We work predominantly with the situation-orientated approach. This means that we build on the needs, experiences and interests of the children and organise our educational activities and programmes accordingly. Each child is focussed on as an individual. However, participation, the right to participate and the opportunity to complain also play a very important role in our everyday life. The children learn to recognise and express their own needs and wishes. At the same time, attention is paid to the democratic participation that is necessary in the group. Making compromises and learning to share are important prerequisites for being strong and self-confident in the social environment! The children can help to determine and organise their daily activities. In addition, every child has the right to express their dissatisfaction. Our experienced teachers recognise the children's signals and act accordingly,

Our partially open concept allows the children to expand their learning environment. Where do I want to be? Who do I want to get in touch with? What else is there to discover here? These are fundamental questions that our concept answers.

But what does ‘partially open concept’ actually mean?

Our children are assigned to fixed groups. In this group, they have their caregivers (staff and children), eat their meals and also get to rest there. This smaller setting is particularly important at crèche age so as not to overwhelm the little ones with too many impressions and experiences!

But there are also certain times when the group room doors open so that the children can decide for themselves where they want to be. Do I still prefer to stay in my familiar group room or do I want to see what's on offer in another room? Maybe I'd rather romp around in the corridor? Partial opening is also the ideal time to consolidate or extend social contacts. Do I play with my friend or perhaps get to know other children?

During partial opening, the children are free to decide where, with whom or how they want to spend their time!

Employee

Our team currently consists of 27 employees.

In addition to the educational staff (childhood educators, nursery teachers, child carers), we have 2 auxiliary staff, 4 interns (FSJ, interns in nursery teacher training), 1 administrator and 2 housekeepers.

The children are accompanied on a daily basis by the educational staff, the trainees and the assistants. In each group, there is an educator as group leader and at least one nursery nurse or educator as a second member of staff. The group teachers are then supported by other team members so that at least 3 employees are assigned to each crèche group.

The administrative staff support the management in the office.

The housekeeping staff take on most of the housekeeping tasks that arise in our everyday life.

The municipality of Hallbergmoos also provides us with 2 house technicians and cleaning staff.

Teamwork with parents

Open and transparent communication characterised by mutual appreciation, respect and trust is particularly important to us.

Parents and educational professionals are partners in the education, upbringing and care of the children. Our common goal is to support the children in their individual development in the best possible way, to shape their environment and to offer them a place where they can feel comfortable, secure and safe!

In addition to regular personal development meetings, we hold daily handover meetings with you. It is important for us to find out how your child is doing in the morning and whether there are any particularities that we should be aware of. It is also important for us to let you know how your child has spent the day when you pick them up!

We work with the daycare centre app Kitalino. This app provides you with all important general and group-internal information in a quick and uncomplicated way. The groups often provide insights into everyday life and allow you to be a part of it.

In addition, a parents' council is elected annually, which is actively involved in daycare centre life and acts as a mouthpiece between the parents and the daycare centre team.

Specifics

The settling-in period

Familiarisation is the start of the daycare period and a crucial phase!

We work according to the Berlin familiarisation model and focus on the child during this phase. Your child's behaviour determines the process and duration. We therefore ask you to allow sufficient time for this! Time pressure and acting too quickly can have consequences in this phase. As parents, and therefore as your child's experts, you support the educational staff in building a bond with your child. And the educators support you with their expertise and many years of experience - again to pursue the common goal: To give your child a good start in an unfamiliar environment!
