We care for children from the age of three until the end of primary school, bringing kindergarten and after-school care together under one roof. Our centre is located in the rural district of Burgholzhausen vor der Höhe, surrounded by nature near the Erlenbach stream. Our spacious outdoor area offers children a wide range of opportunities to explore nature, exercise, play and gain their own experiences.

Kinderburg Holzhausen is a place for living, learning and protection, where every child should feel safe, accepted and valued. We aim to support each child's individual development, take an interest in their ideas and interests, and give them the space to act independently, try new things and discover their own abilities.

  • Friday: 7:30 am – 4:20 pm

Care hours depend on the childcare package booked.

After-School Care (Hort):

  • Before school starts, care is only available if the child's timetable does not include a lesson during the first period.

Our Educational Concept

Our educational work is based on the Hessian Education and Development Plan for Children aged 0 to 10 (BEP). We see every child as a unique and capable individual who actively shapes their own development and explores the world around them with curiosity. A key focus of our work is our open-concept approach. Children have the opportunity to use different activity rooms according to their interests, needs and abilities and to actively shape their daily routines. Our qualified educational staff accompany, guide and support them throughout this process.

Our activity rooms offer a wide range of educational and learning opportunities:

  • Bistro: Shared meals and opportunities to socialise in a welcoming atmosphere.

  • Quiet Room and Homework Area: Space for relaxation, reading, quiet activities and focused learning.

  • Construction Room: Building, constructing and creative experimentation.

  • Gym: Physical activity, body awareness and group movement games.

  • After-School Room: A safe and comfortable retreat for children attending after-school care.

  • Creative Workshop: Creative projects, arts and crafts, and practical activities.

  • Role-Play Room: Imaginative play, drama, role-playing and social learning.

  • Board Game Area in the Rondel: Playing together, learning rules and practising consideration for others.

  • Discovery Corner: Exploring, experimenting and gaining first-hand scientific experiences.

Our spacious outdoor area near the Erlenbach stream complements the activity rooms as an important place for learning and discovery. Children can observe plants and animals, explore natural materials, experience the changing seasons and enjoy plenty of opportunities for physical activity.

What Matters to Us

Relationships and Trust

We create a reliable and welcoming environment in which children feel comfortable and can build secure relationships.

Independence and Self-Efficacy

We encourage children to make their own decisions, take responsibility and develop confidence in their abilities.

Participation and Children's Rights

We take children's opinions, wishes and needs seriously. Through children's meetings, shared decision-making and child-friendly ways of expressing concerns or complaints, they are actively involved in shaping their everyday lives.

Inclusion and Diversity

Every child belongs. We aim to ensure that all children have equal opportunities to participate, regardless of their individual abilities, background, language or needs.

Play and Learning

Through free play, creative activities, exploration and learning together, children discover their interests and develop new skills.

Social and Emotional Learning

We support children in expressing their feelings, building friendships, resolving conflicts and showing consideration for others.

Child Protection and Safety

The well-being of children is our highest priority. We respect their personal boundaries, strengthen their rights and follow our centre-specific child protection policy.

Working Together with Families

We value a trusting educational partnership with parents and families. Through admission meetings, developmental discussions, daily communication, parents' evenings and joint events, we work together with families to support each child's development.

Regular observations, documentation and portfolio work help us make each child's individual learning and developmental progress visible.

Our educational staff regularly reflect on their work as a team and continuously develop their professional practice through training courses, team meetings and regular planning days.

Our Shared Goal

We want every child to have the opportunity to develop their personality, discover their individual strengths, act independently and experience what it means to be part of a community.

Every child is unique. Every child has rights. Every child belongs.

We look forward to accompanying children and their families on a part of their journey together.

Introduction/specifics

Our educational staff see themselves as trusted caregivers and learning facilitators. They observe the children's interests and needs, provide inspiration and guidance, and support them in putting their own ideas into practice and gaining new experiences.

To help children find their way around our open-concept setting, the rules and ways of using each activity room are explained clearly and in an age-appropriate manner. Our staff are always available to answer questions and provide support, while ensuring that all children understand the agreed rules and use the rooms responsibly.

Kinderburg Holzhausen – Our Educational Approach

Welcome to Kinderburg Holzhausen!

Kinderburg Holzhausen is a childcare centre operated by the City of Friedrichsdorf. We care for children from the age of three until the end of primary school, bringing kindergarten and after-school care together under one roof.

Our centre is located in the rural district of Burgholzhausen vor der Höhe, in a natural setting near the Erlenbach stream. Our spacious outdoor area offers children a wide range of opportunities to explore nature, be physically active, play and gain valuable experiences.

Kinderburg Holzhausen is a place for living, learning and protection, where every child should feel safe, accepted and valued. We aim to support each child's individual development, take an interest in their needs and interests, and give them the space to act independently, try new things and discover their own abilities.

Daily Schedule

A Typical Day at Kinderburg Holzhausen

The daily routine at Kinderburg combines fixed structures and familiar rituals with open activities and opportunities for children to make their own choices. Throughout the day, we take the children's individual needs and interests into account while encouraging their independence.

Kindergarten

From 7:30 am onwards, children can have breakfast at their own pace until 11:00 am. At 9:00 am, everyone comes together for the morning circle. From 10:30 am until 4:00 pm, all activity rooms are open to the children. They can decide for themselves which room they would like to use and what activities they would like to take part in.

Mondays are Toy Bring-In Day, when children are allowed to bring one of their own toys from home. In addition, physical activity sessions take place in the gym on Monday mornings.

Thursdays are dedicated to age-group activities and pre-school preparation.

During the age-group sessions, children take part in activities and projects suited to their particular age group. As children of similar ages often share comparable interests and developmental needs, these sessions allow us to provide targeted support and guidance for their individual development.

The pre-school group starts approximately nine months before children begin primary school and takes place once a week outside school holiday periods. Through play-based learning, special activities and excursions, children are prepared for the transition to school.

During the second half of the kindergarten year, the pre-school group meets once a month directly at the school in cooperation with the school staff. This helps make the transition from kindergarten to primary school easier for the children.

Twice a week, all children participate in a selected extracurricular activity group. These groups are based on the children's interests and give them opportunities to gain new experiences and discover their own abilities.

Lunch is served daily in the bistro between 12:15 pm and 2:00 pm. An additional snack time is provided in the afternoon.

After-School Care (Hort)

Children attending after-school care arrive at Kinderburg from 11:20 am onwards. Just like the kindergarten children, they can use the various activity rooms and have lunch in the bistro between 12:15 pm and 2:00 pm.

Time for completing homework is scheduled between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm. Within this time frame, homework sessions and lunch breaks are coordinated to meet the children's individual needs.

Children complete their homework in an environment that is as quiet as possible and receive support from our educational staff whenever needed. Breaks and each child's individual needs are also taken into consideration.

Once their homework is completed, children are free to use the activity rooms and take part in additional leisure activities.

By combining structured daily routines, open activity rooms and guided activities, we create a varied and engaging daily programme that supports the independence, social skills and individual development of all children.

Food

Shared Lunchtime

Lunch takes place for all children in the bistro area between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.

Kindergarten and after-school care (Hort) children eat together, helping to strengthen their social skills and sense of community. Meals are always supervised and accompanied by our qualified educational staff.

Holiday Care

Holiday Programme

During school holidays, we offer the children a varied holiday programme. As part of our children's meetings, they have the opportunity to help decide which activities and excursions will take place throughout the week.

Before each holiday period, we will ask you to let us know your childcare requirements.

During the school holidays, the regular opening hours for after-school care (Hort) are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Additional early and late care (emergency care hours) is available:

  • Early care: 7:30 am – 8:00 am

  • Late care: 4:30 pm – 5:00 pm

If you require childcare during these additional hours, please inform the management in good time and confirm your request.

All of this information is very important for our planning. It enables us to calculate staffing requirements and organise excursions in advance, including purchasing public transport tickets and admission tickets. When we go on excursions, we usually return to the centre by 4:00 pm at the latest.

Please note that, depending on the number of children attending, we may need to split the group into smaller groups.

It is very important to us to take the children's wishes and interests into account and involve them in the planning process. For organisational reasons, there may be some holiday days when your child does not take part in an excursion but instead stays at the childcare centre with one of the groups.

On the first day the centre is open each week, we always stay at the centre. On this day, we discuss and plan the week's activities together with the children. The weekly programme is then displayed for everyone to see.

Children should be properly equipped for excursions depending on the planned activity. This may include, for example, a rain jacket, a backpack with food and drinks, swimming gear, etc.

You will find details of everything your child needs to bring in the weekly programme.

Homework Support

Time for completing homework is scheduled between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm. Within this time frame, homework sessions and lunch breaks are coordinated to meet the children's individual needs.

The children complete their homework in an environment that is as quiet as possible and receive support from our educational staff whenever needed. Breaks and each child's individual needs are also taken into consideration.
