The Sonnenblume day nursery is run by the Youth Welfare Office of the City of Erlangen.
We are an educational and childcare facility for children of school age
from 6 - 11 years, and see our work as a family-supporting offer
with the involvement of parents.
We want to help children develop their own abilities and talents and prepare them as individuals for life as members of the community.

The Sonnenblume after-school care center consists of three floors: ground floor, first floor and basement.
On the ground floor there is a group room with adjoining room, kitchenette and a checkroom. The ground floor also houses the exercise room, the main kitchen, the office and children's toilets.
The first floor houses two group rooms, each with an adjoining room and kitchenette, checkrooms and children's toilets.
In the basement, there is a creative room that can be used by all groups and an accessible bathroom.
All rooms are barrier-free. An elevator connects all floors.

The garden has a lawn, a mountain of mud, a sandpit, various seating areas, a climbing castle, a football pitch and a shed for storing exercise equipment. There are also swings, a climbing wall and a selection of play equipment.

Oberbayerische Fleisch- und Wurst GmbH is our food supplier and we provide the children in our Sonnenblume after-school care center with balanced hot meals from our food supplier every day. The menus contain 1x meat and 1x fish per week, in accordance with the DGE guidelines. For example, the proportion of organic meat is 100% and all other dishes have an average organic content of around 75%. The delivery service offers seasonal and varied dishes in accordance with the DGE standard and the presentation of various quality seals. The menus can be individually adapted for allergies and intolerances (lactose, gluten, etc.). A medical certificate is required for this.

Completeness is an important aspect of homework, so we make sure that the children complete their tasks carefully. We foster a culture of error, where mistakes are seen as a natural part of the learning process. Children are encouraged to recognize and correct their own mistakes in order to learn from them.
Various aids are available to help the children with their homework. These include headphones, seat cushions, 100s boards, dictionaries, number rays, ABC lists and much more.

In addition to homework supervision and lunchtime supervision, the Sonnenblume after-school care center offers a variety of additional activities. This includes educational activities during the week as well as Friday activities chosen by the children themselves. A varied vacation program is offered, which includes excursions to various places such as the fire department, city rally, Thurn Castle, museum and zoo and much more. The after-school care center also cooperates with other facilities in the city of Erlangen.
