About Us

St. Theresia Kindergarten is a lively place for learning, playing, and being together. It is located in the Clemens-August-Dorf district of Damme. Currently, our facility is housed in modern mobile classrooms. In the future, we look forward to moving into our new building in the “Holter Kapelle” development, which will offer even more space for child-friendly and forward-looking care.

We care for children aged 1 to 7 years.

  • Nursery Group: Up to 15 children aged 1 to 3 years can be cared for between 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
  • Mixed-Age Group: Up to 25 children aged 1 to 7 years can be cared for. The number of children depends on how many are under three years old. The care hours are also from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A respectful and appreciative atmosphere is very important to us. Children of different backgrounds, cultures, nationalities, and ages meet here every day. They play, learn, and discover the world together, benefiting from one another. This diversity enriches our daily life and makes our kindergarten a place where openness, tolerance, and community are lived experiences.

How We Work

Our Motto: We Meet Each Other at Eye Level

In our kindergarten, we approach each child with respect, appreciation, and on equal terms. We create an environment where children can freely express their feelings, thoughts, and interests and experience that their opinions matter.

Through participatory activities, children actively shape their daily routine and learn to make decisions and find solutions together. Our educators respond to each child’s individual interests and needs and support their development.

A special focus of our work is on free play. Here, children can explore their abilities, develop friendships, be creative, and discover the world in their own way. We also promote language development throughout the day through conversations and learning opportunities.

Our kindergarten is a place where children can experience community, try new things, and learn and grow with joy.

Our Spaces

St. Theresia Kindergarten is currently housed in a mobile transitional facility. A new building in the “Holter Kapelle” development is planned, which will offer even more space for play, movement, and learning.

Each group has a spacious classroom and a flexible adjoining room that can be adapted to the children’s interests – currently used as a movement or construction room.

A bright, spacious hallway offers various play and activity corners where children can play, explore, and move around freely. A cozy reading corner invites children to relax and browse.

The outdoor area features a large sandbox for digging and playing. The lawn provides plenty of space for riding tricycles, running, and active play. Tall trees and dense bushes offer perfect spots for hiding, exploring, and using nature as a playground.

A Day in Our Kindergarten

After arrival, children settle into their groups and have time to immerse themselves in free play.

Both groups begin the day together with a morning circle. Here, we review the day’s schedule, check attendance, note who is absent due to illness or vacation, share important information, sing, play, and sometimes work on project topics.

Afterwards, children can return to free play according to their interests. Free play is at the heart of our educational approach, as we believe it is essential for children to have ample time to engage deeply and independently in their play.

Our breakfast is flexible: children decide for themselves when to eat and how much, learning to listen to their own hunger and satiety cues.

We aim to spend time outdoors every day, with the children actively shaping their own experiences: everything is optional, nothing is mandatory. Participation in activities is always voluntary.

In the late morning, there is a shared “fruit break,” providing fresh fruit and vegetables as a small snack.

Pick-up begins at 12:30 p.m. Children registered until 1:30 p.m. have the opportunity for a second breakfast at 1:00 p.m. The kindergarten day ends at 1:30 p.m. at the latest.
