About Our Johann-Walling Childcare Centre

The Johann-Walling Childcare Centre is a place for learning, discovery, and growth together. As part of the St. Remigius Family Centre, we support children and families in an atmosphere of trust, respect, and family partnership.

Our centre provides care and support for 75 children, accompanying them on their individual developmental journeys. Our educational approach is guided by each child's needs, interests, and abilities. We create a stimulating and thoughtfully prepared environment that encourages exploration, experimentation, research, and independent action.

Our goal is to empower children to actively shape their world, make their own decisions, and experience a sense of self-efficacy. This is achieved through attentive observation, an understanding of individual developmental themes, and a focus on the strengths and resources of each child.

Children belong to an age-related group and are accompanied by a team of dedicated educational professionals. These groups provide orientation, security, and reliable relationships. Throughout their time at our centre, children experience a sense of community with their peers, build friendships, and develop a strong feeling of belonging.

Through everyday interactions, children learn to take responsibility for themselves and others, negotiate and follow agreed rules, respect different needs, and cooperate with one another in a considerate and respectful manner. In this way, they develop important social skills that will support them throughout their lives.

• Full-day care including a warm lunch for children enrolled in the 35-hour block programme and the 45-hour programme

Rooms

Our Rooms as Places for Learning, Discovery and Well-Being

In our childcare centre, we work according to the concept of open education within age-related groups. Children experience their home group as a familiar place of belonging while also having the opportunity to explore various learning environments throughout the centre and follow their individual interests.

Each group area includes adjoining rooms that provide additional opportunities for play, learning, exploration and retreat. In this way, diverse learning environments are created that meet the different needs and developmental stages of the children.

Movement Room

Our movement room offers children a wide range of opportunities to satisfy their natural urge to move and to develop awareness of their bodies. Through climbing, balancing, jumping, rolling and participating in group movement activities, children strengthen their motor skills, body awareness and self-confidence. Educational professionals support them in taking on new challenges and developing their abilities further.

Art Studio with Workshop Corner

The art studio encourages children to express their creativity and imagination. A variety of materials and artistic techniques inspire experimentation, invention and creative design. An integrated workshop corner provides additional opportunities to work with different materials and tools, implement personal ideas and gain practical craft experiences. The focus is on the creative process, through which children expand their forms of expression and experience a sense of achievement and competence.

Library

Our library is a place of calm, listening and engagement with language. Picture books, stories and nonfiction books spark curiosity, encourage language development and open doors to new worlds of experience. Children can independently choose books, enjoy reading together with others or listen to stories being read aloud.

Sleeping and Quiet Rooms

For rest and relaxation, children have access to thoughtfully designed sleeping and quiet rooms. These spaces offer opportunities to withdraw, recharge, relax or meet individual sleeping needs. The rooms create a peaceful and secure atmosphere that supports the children's well-being.

Outdoor Area with Sandpit

Our outdoor area is an important part of everyday life in the centre and offers numerous opportunities for movement, play and experiences in nature. The large sandpit, in particular, invites children to build, create, explore and play together. The various play and discovery areas encourage creativity, physical activity and social learning, making the outdoor area a vibrant place for education and development.

Open Education in Age-Related Groups

Open education enables children to actively pursue their interests, make decisions and help shape their daily experiences. At the same time, the age-related groups provide orientation, security and developmentally appropriate activities. This creates a wide range of learning opportunities through which children develop independence, social skills and personal responsibility. Educational professionals accompany the children attentively, build on their interests and create a stimulating environment in which every child can follow their own individual path of development.

Bistro

Our bistro is a central meeting place in the children's daily routine. Here, they have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast and lunch together in a pleasant and calm atmosphere.

Meals take place within defined time frames that provide structure, consistency and reliability. Within these periods, children can decide for themselves when they would like to eat and how much they need. This supports them in recognising their own feelings of hunger and fullness and in gradually taking responsibility for their personal needs.

Meals are accompanied by educational professionals who create a relaxed atmosphere, encourage conversation and support the children’s growing independence. Shared mealtimes offer much more than nourishment; they provide valuable opportunities for social interaction, communication and the development of everyday life skills.

The bistro is therefore far more than a dining room. It is a place of community, participation and belonging, where children experience self-determination, shared responsibility and a positive food culture.

Outdoor Facilities

Our Outdoor Area as a Diverse Learning and Exploration Environment

Our outdoor area is an important part of everyday life in our childcare center and is continuously supervised by staff members. This enables children to use this space at any time, even in changeable or rainy weather.

The various play equipment, natural spaces, and materials invite children to move, climb, play with water and mud, explore, hide, be creative, and engage in cooperative play. Through these experiences, they develop a deeper understanding of their bodies, their environment, and social interactions.

The accompanying early childhood professionals observe the children's interests, needs, and developmental themes with great attention and create stimulating opportunities for further discovery, exploration, and learning. In this way, the outdoor area becomes a vibrant environment that supports each child’s individual development and learning journey.

Daily Schedule

Daily Routine in Our Childcare Centre

In our childcare centre, children experience a daily routine that is both structured and flexible, providing them with security, orientation, and many opportunities to actively shape their day. Their home group serves as a familiar and supportive base from which they can explore a variety of learning and discovery opportunities throughout the centre.

At the beginning of the day, children are welcomed at reception. They then go independently, or if needed accompanied by an educational professional, to their cloakroom area and home group. There, they are warmly welcomed and given time to settle into their day. Children who require additional support receive the guidance and assistance they need for a successful start.

Afterwards, the children's individual learning and exploration time begins. Within an agreed framework, they decide for themselves what they would like to do, which areas they wish to use, and with whom they would like to play, learn, and explore. In this way, they experience participation, independence, and self-determination in everyday life. During the open breakfast period, children may also enjoy their packed breakfast at a time that suits their individual needs.

Exploring the World Around Us

An important part of our educational approach is exploring the local environment. Walks through the town, visits to playgrounds, trips to the bird enclosure, the library, and other places of interest provide valuable learning experiences and opportunities for everyday discovery. Through these experiences, children actively explore their surroundings and develop a sense of belonging within their community.

Learning in Age-Related Groups

Alongside the open learning periods, children regularly meet in their age-related groups:

Within these groups, children work on projects together, deepen their interests, exchange ideas, and receive learning opportunities that are appropriate to their stage of development. These groups foster a sense of community, belonging, and age-appropriate learning experiences.

In addition, the use of the sports hall at Johann-Walling Primary School is an integral part of our educational programme. There, children take part in additional physical activities in a larger movement environment. They develop their motor skills, gain new movement experiences, and become familiar with a setting that many of them will encounter later as school children.

Lunch and Rest Time

Lunch is enjoyed together in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in the bistro. Afterwards, children have the opportunity to rest, relax, or follow their individual need for sleep. The quiet and sleeping rooms provide a safe, peaceful, and comfortable environment for these important periods of rest and recovery.

Growing Together

Through the combination of home groups, open learning time, age-related activities, excursions, opportunities for physical activity, and rest periods, children experience a varied and enriching daily routine. They enjoy a sense of security while developing independence and benefiting from a wide range of educational experiences. Educational professionals accompany them attentively, build upon their interests, and support them in discovering and shaping the world in their own unique way.

Partnership with Parents
