Current information

Introduction

The "KiTa Waldquelle" is a one-group parent initiative in the ecological settlement called "Waldquelle" on the outskirts of Bielefeld-Quelle. In our multi-age group, we look after 20 children aged 2 to 6 years in a familiar and natural environment.

As a small, single-group daycare centre, we create a lively community in which the children receive individual support and a trusting relationship develops between children, parents and staff.

Outdoor Facilities

The daycare centre is located right on the edge of the forest and has a natural outdoor area with a variety of play and exercise options. There is a play garden right next to the daycare centre, which offers the children space to dig, build, play together and explore creatively.

There is also another playground right on the edge of the forest - with a construction trailer, workshop area and herb and snack garden. The immediate proximity to nature characterises our daycare centre's everyday life in all seasons.

Rooms

The interior of the daycare centre is designed in a child-friendly and versatile way - with plateaus, play and retreat areas, areas for building and being creative as well as a separate quiet room and an area for the budding schoolchildren.

Daily Schedule

The daily routine offers the children reliable structures and at the same time plenty of space for free play and self-determined discovery. The KiTa daily routine includes, among other things:

  • Sitting time and rituals
  • Daily time outdoors in nature and on the outdoor area
  • Creative design and free play
  • exercise programmes
  • rest and reading times
  • Singing and making music together
  • Meals prepared together with the children

Our daily routine is complemented by special activities, including the weekly forest day and joint gymnastics in the nearby gym.

Food

Breakfast and afternoon snack are freshly prepared together with the children. The vegetarian lunch is provided by "Emilio - vegetarian cuisine". We emphasise organic, regional and seasonal ingredients as well as a balanced and child-friendly diet.

Basics

Pedagogical understanding
Our educational work is based on respectful and needs-orientated interaction. We are guided by the situational approach and incorporate the children's interests, questions and everyday experiences into our educational work. We support the children individually in their development and create a protected environment in which they can try things out, have a say and experience community. With us, the children develop independence, confidence in their own abilities and enjoy learning together.

Learning across all ages
In our mixed-age group, the children learn from and with each other. Younger children take their lead from the older ones, while older children take on responsibility and strengthen their social skills. The family atmosphere encourages respectful and supportive interaction.

Nature and environmental education
Nature and environmental education is a particular focus of our work. The children regularly experience the forest and our natural outdoor area as a learning and experience space. Movement, free play and direct experience of nature are integral parts of our everyday life. The children discover the seasons with all their senses, observe plants and animals and experience nature in a variety of ways.

A special highlight is the overnight farm stay, where the children experience a farm up close.

Further focus
Other important components of our educational work are

  • Promoting physical activity
  • language development
  • musical programmes
  • healthy nutrition
  • social learning
  • Promotion of independence
  • Preparation for the transition to school

Employee

Our team consists of four part-time nursery teachers as well as changing additional team members who support our educational work - for example as part of training, internships or voluntary services.

With staffing levels that exceed the statutory childcare ratio and additional substitution plans, we create good conditions for stable childcare hours, even as a small, single-group daycare centre.

Teamwork with parents

As a parents' initiative, KiTa Waldquelle e.V. thrives on the active participation of families. Parents get involved in the life of the day-care centre and work together with the team to create a lively community. As part of the association's board, parents take on responsibility and work together with the educational team on the organisational direction of the KiTa.

Joint celebrations and projects strengthen togetherness and characterise a family atmosphere in which children, parents and staff know each other well and feel connected.

Projects

Experiencing festivals, projects and activities together is an important part of our KiTa year.

Regular activities include

  • weekly forest day
  • children's gymnastics
  • musical activities
  • Visit from a reading mentor
  • School children's club for the children about to start school

Various joint events also take place throughout the year, for example

  • Lantern festival with campfire
  • Advent afternoon
  • Carnival celebration with a parade through the neighbourhood
  • Summer party (to say goodbye to the school children)
  • Farm overnight stay
  • School children's sleepover
  • Garden and activity days
  • Participation in the Queller Christmas market
  • Participation in festivals in the neighbourhood

Many of these activities are organised jointly by parents and the team and characterise the lively atmosphere at the KiTa Waldquelle.
