Our Open House will take place on October 10, 2026!

Introduction

Kinderinsel is located in a quiet neighbourhood in the east of Bielefeld.

We strive to make Kinderinsel a place where children aged one to three can live and learn together. A place where they can feel comfortable, gain new experiences and thrive. As a small kindergarten, we place great importance on close collaboration with families, and on fostering a warm and familiar atmosphere throughout the Kinderinsel. All 20 children in the two groups know each other, as well as all the adults in the house, which creates a wonderful atmosphere. You can sign up for 35 or 45 hours of care per week at our kindergarten.

Outdoor Facilities

Our enclosed outdoor area is located in a courtyard and is perfect for running around, climbing, and exploring. The net swing, the climbing tower with a slide, and the large sandbox are especially popular. Another highlight is our apple tree, whose fruit we turn into delicious applesauce in the fall. On warm days, two large sunshades provide pleasant shade, allowing us to spend plenty of time outdoors in ey season.

Rooms

Each group has its own lovingly designed area, including a group room, an extra room, a  wardrobe, and a room for sleeping. The facilities are complemented by a Bathroom with adiaper-changing area, as well as a separate kitchen. This allows us to create an environment where the children can feel safe, secure, and comfortable.

Food

The early years of life are when the important foundations for future eating habits and dietary patterns are laid. That is why we place great emphasis on a balanced, child-friendly, and varied diet.

Our goal is to expose the children to a wide range of flavors and to help them develop a love for healthy foods. We ensure that their diet includes plenty of fruits and vegetables and that meat and sugary foods are consumed in moderation.

Still water and unsweetened teas are available to the children at all times.

The children bring breakfast from home. Lunch is delivered fresh daily by Feinkost Buschmann. For the afternoon snack, we also ensure a healthy and varied selection that meets the children’s needs.

Basics

Our work is guided by a situation-based approach that focuses on the children’s interests, needs, and life circumstances. Together with the parents, we build a trusting partnership in education and child-rearing that is characterized by openness, transparency, and mutual respect.

True to our motto, “Helping children discover themselves,” we support the children as they develop their personalities, act independently, and explore the world with curiosity. In doing so, we particularly encourage free play, social skills, engagement with the environment, and the development of individual abilities.

As an interculturally open daycare center, we welcome families from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles.

Employee

Additional Offerings

To provide children with a wide range of educational and experiential opportunities, Kinderinsel regularly offers various projects and activities. These include:

  • Physical activity
  • Forest days
  • Small-group activities
  • The “Open Doors” project
  • Visits to the shepherd
  • Parent-Child Afternoons

Through these varied activities, we support the children’s development and provide them with diverse experiences in the areas of physical activity, nature, community, and independence.

Quality Assurance

We place great importance on the ongoing professional development of our educational staff through

  • training programs
  • planning sessions
  • peer consultation
  • performance reviews

All GfS facilities are currently in the process of implementing a quality management system.

Cooperations

Kinderinsel  works closely with our partner facility, “Wilde 13.” Children who turn three have the opportunity to transition seamlessly to Wilde 13 for the next preschool year.

To make the transition as smooth and reassuring as possible for the children, our educational staff begins supporting this process well in advance. Regular visits to “Wilde 13” allow the children to get to know their new environment, the staff, and the basic routines. This helps them build relationships and gain a sense of security even before the transition.

We continue to maintain close cooperation even after/bevore the transition. For example, parent-child afternoons are held on the grounds of “Wilde 13,” and our joint summer festival is a regular feature of the annual calendar.

We also maintain contact with the following institutions: the Youth Welfare Office, the Public Health Department, vocational schools for social pedagogy, and counseling centers (parenting counseling, early intervention, speech therapists, etc.) as needed.

Teamwork with school

Due to the unique structure of our facility (for children up to age 3), we do not collaborate with schools.

Teamwork with parents

For us, a trusting and respectful collaboration with parents is the foundation of a successful educational partnership. Together, we want to create the best possible conditions for the children’s development and learning and support them along the way.

Regular communication helps us to best understand and address the needs and interests of each individual.

The elected Parent Council serves as an important bridge between families and the educational team. It represents the interests of parents, supports collaboration, and acts as a point of contact for both families and staff.
