Introduction/specifics

The municipal day-care centre (Kita) Zwergenkindergarten is located in the centre of Backnang on the ground floor of a listed building. The interior spaces include a large group room, a sleeping room, a bistro with an integrated kitchenette and a washroom. There is no own outdoor area. A municipal playground is located in the immediate vicinity of the Kita and can be used by the Kita. Since the Zwergenkindergarten does not have its own garden or a separate activity room, we make particularly flexible use of the rooms we have available. The group room, bistro and children’s bathroom are used as play, learning and experience rooms. In addition, we incorporate the immediate surroundings and walks into our educational work.

Basics

Small, family-like, right in the middle of it all – together we discover the world.
Our educational work is based on the orientation plan for education and upbringing. In addition, we incorporate principles of the Montessori and Pikler educational approaches as well as elements of the situational approach. The focus is on the children’s independence, individual needs and interests. In the Zwergenkindergarten (Dwarves’ Kindergarten), each child is the centre of attention as a unique individual. We treat the children with respect and appreciation and accompany them individually at their own pace of development.
Children aged two to three years old discover the world with great curiosity. Free play takes up the largest part of the day and is of great importance for the children’s development. During free play, they are allowed to play, experiment, research and gain experience independently, develop their own ideas and form social relationships. In addition, creative, musical and movement-based activities, picture books, role-playing games and small experiments offer a variety of opportunities for learning and discovery.

We see ourselves as companions to the children. We provide them with security, observe them attentively, respond to their interests and support them where they need help or new impulses. Our rooms create a safe and secure environment that encourages independent action and exploration. We take the children’s needs and their current developmental steps into account.

A trusting cooperation with the parents is an important part of our work. In an open and appreciative exchange, we support the children’s development together and create a good connection between the family and the kindergarten. Regular exchanges take place, for example, during the intake interview, at the door and gate meetings, as well as during the annual development interview and as needed.
