Introduction/specifics

The municipal day-care centre (Kita) Heimgarten is located in a quiet residential area in the southern district of Backnang. The rooms in our renovated and bright building are divided into a crèche and a kindergarten area. The crèche area has two group rooms and two side rooms. There is also a washroom with changing facilities and a sleeping room.
The kindergarten area has three group rooms, each with a side room. The groups share two washrooms and the dining area. The spacious multi-purpose room, located in the centre of the building, is used for both table games and physical activities. The back part of the multi-purpose room serves as a bistro where lunch is served. The changing area of the kindergarten is located in the disabled-friendly toilet. The facility is surrounded by a large garden with various play areas, including a climbing house with a slide, a sandpit and balancing equipment.

Basics

The educational work of the day-care centre is based on the orientation plan for education and upbringing as well as on the individual needs and development potential of the children. A special emphasis is placed on promoting self-confidence, independence and self-efficacy. Children are given free space to gain their own experiences, make decisions and pursue their interests. The development of language skills is another important focus and is supported in everyday educational activities through linguistic guidance and a variety of stimuli. In the crèche, there is a special focus on movement, perception and individual development. Children are given opportunities to participate in activities that are appropriate for their stage of development and can develop at their own pace.
Children are born researchers, explorers and philosophers and can experiment and try things out with enthusiasm for hours on end. The aim of this creative and playful activity is to recognise the children’s learning processes, to deepen them and to open up new areas of learning through stimuli and suggestions. Every child is a ‘self-learner’ but not a ‘learner who works alone’. It requires adult caregivers to accompany them in their learning processes. The professional observation is a prerequisite to recognise the current learning steps, interests and needs of a child and to promote them according to the interests and competences.
Our aim is to build a trusting relationship with the children and parents from the very first day. We create a partnership basis with the parents by meeting them on an equal footing. We are in regular contact with each other. The prerequisites for a successful educational partnership are: trust, openness, honesty, acceptance and tolerance.
