Growing up in a safe environment – surrounded by greenery.

Our Protestant kindergarten, ‘Ehrenberger Dorfspatzen’, is located in the charming rural surroundings of the Altenburg district of Ehrenberg. It has a long tradition dating back to 1845.  Since 2003, it has been run by our foundation, Ev.-Luth. Magdalenenstift Altenburg.

In the basement of the multi-purpose hall, we look after children in a family atmosphere – with plenty of space to play, learn and run around.

Following extensive renovation in the summer of 2014, the kindergarten now offers bright, modern rooms. A long-cherished wish came true in 2017 with the expansion of the toddler area: since then, we have also been able to lovingly care for children from the age of one in newly designed rooms.

Small, familiar and individual

Our kindergarten offers space for up to 40 children to grow, discover and develop – in three mixed-age groups. The spacious group rooms are directly connected to the playground, which offers plenty of opportunities for discovery and exercise with its approximately 800 m² of space.

A gym invites children to play and rest, and the sports hall of the multi-purpose hall is regularly used for exercise sessions.

Just a few steps away is the Känguru Free Integrative Primary School, with which we have a close partnership – ensuring a smooth transition from kindergarten to school.

Learning in and with nature

Surrounded by fields, gardens and village life, we consciously use the advantages of the rural environment in our educational work.

We encourage experiences of nature, outdoor exercise and projects that involve the children's immediate living environment. This creates natural learning environments that stimulate curiosity, responsibility and creativity – rural, familiar and close to nature.

Education with heart and faith

As a Protestant institution, the Christian faith is part of our everyday life. We tell Bible stories, sing, pray and celebrate the festivals of the church year. In this way, the children experience security, trust and the joy of being part of a community.

‘We connect generations so that life can flourish.’
This idea of the Magdalenenstift also shapes our work in Ehrenberg – in the daily interaction between children, families and the village community.

Educational concept

We work according to the situational approach: children learn in projects that tie in with their experiences, interests and life situations. They are involved in the planning and learn to act independently, take responsibility and make decisions. This creates learning processes based on real experiences – with the head, heart and hands.

Our nursery sees itself as a family-complementary institution. We accompany children from the age of two until they start school, promote their overall development and support parents in the educational partnership.

Shaping the future together – with parents and sponsors

Parents, staff and the Magdalenenstift are continuously developing the kindergarten's profile. The aim is to focus even more strongly on its rural character, nature-based education and the promotion of physical activity.

The name ‘Ehrenberger Dorfspatzen’ stands for our close roots in the village and our attitude:
Rural · Family-oriented · Close to nature.
